Joanne Tingey-Holyoak, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Accounting and Professorial Lead at the University of South Australia. Since completing a PhD in agricultural water management on an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project in 2012, she has produced over 80 publications based on original studies on how to link accounting and financial data with biophysical data to improve agricultural decision-making, including through developing industry-based irrigator decision-making tools. 

Tingey-Holyoak has a background in industry and is a Chartered Accountant (CA), Fellow Certified Practicing Accountant (FCPA) and Certified Practicing Agriculturalist (CPAg). She is Associate Editor of Australasian Journal of Water Resources (2019-), Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal (2020-), and Accounting Forum (2021-), and has received several distinctions, such as the 2013 Emerald Social Impact Award and the 2020 Literati Award. Joanne is a Fellow with the Australian Government, Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) working on carbon credit accounting and reporting.

Tingey-Holyoak’s funded projects are worth AU$8.7M, including a World Bank Global Study, several industry collaborations, a multi-partner Wine Australia project and a recent Australian Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment project developing UN SEEA-based accounts for coastal restoration. She is a part of the founding executive committee of the Food and Climate Systems Transformation (FACT) Alliance, led by J-WAFS.
